Miguel Zepeda only appears on 6 episodes of the NBC series "Shades of Blue," but is crucial to the show's story, as he specifically motivates NYPD Detective Harlee Santos' (Jennifer Lopez) corruption. Zepeda is Harlee's ex and possibly Cristina's (Sarah Jeffery) father, an abuser who Harlee framed for murder to protect her daughter. However, this caused her to join Lieutenant Matt Wozniak's (Ray Liotta) extremely shady detective squad.

In prison, Miguel requests a visit from Cristina but is clueless about Harlee setting him up. When Agent Molly Chen (Annie Chang) discovers the truth, Miguel is exonerated, and he immediately starts following Harlee and Cristina around.

Harlee finally offers him $200,000 to leave Cristina alone, but Miguel later threatens her with a gun and attempts to rape her. After the angry ex threatens Cristina as well, Harlee finally snaps his neck, ending his life. Nevertheless, Zepeda's unsolved disappearance still hangs over the detective's head throughout Season 2.
