Scottish pop-rock group Pilot released "Magic" in 1974. The song entered Billboard's US Hot 100 singles chart in April 1975 at No. 84 and peaked at No. 5 in July. The song was also a hit on the U.K. singles chart, peaking at No. 11 in 1975.

In more recent years, Selena Gomez covered "Magic" while she was part of the cast of the 2009 Disney Channel original film "The Wizards of Waverly Place." Gomez's version of the song peaked at No. 61 on the charts the same year.

In addition, Pilot's original version of "Magic" has turned up on more than 20 motion picture and TV soundtracks, appearing in such films as "Happy Gilmore" and "Herbie: Fully Loaded," and the TV series "Extras" and "Ugly Betty." In addition, a remix of "Magic" by Junkie XL was featured in the Steve Carell-Jim Carrey magician-themed movie "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone."

David Paton's commercial jingle was recorded at London's famed Abbey Road Studios, where he and Pilot recorded "Magic" close to five decades before it again found new life in the Ozempic ad.
